JOB DESCRIPTION
JIIA co-editors have ultimate responsibility for ensuring the overall quality and intellectual rigor of JIIA articles. Co-editors share responsibility for overseeing a review process that is conducted fairly, consistently, and in a timely manner. JIIA co-editors must be committed to the mission and goals of the journal. Co-editors select editorial board members and seek out content-area-expert reviewers as necessary. The co-editors serve as co-chairs of the editorial board (EB). The co-editors may solicit special issues and assign guest editors for such special issues. The co-editors are responsible for planning, organizing, and managing an annual editorial board meeting and preparing an annual report for the College Sport Research Institute (CSRI).
1. In consultation with CSRI, co-editors are expected to fulfill the journal’s mission and goals.
· The co-editors annually review JIIA’s mission, consult with the editorial board, and make recommendations to CSRI regarding modifications to the journal’s mission and/or goals.
· Co-editors must ensure published articles are consistent with the journal’s mission.
· Co-editors may recommend publication of a “special” thematic issue. Approval or rejection of a special issue proposal is at the discretion of CSRI.
· Co-editors are responsible for overseeing publication of thematic/special issues. In this role the co-editors may appoint guest editor(s).
2. The co-editors are responsible for overseeing the editorial review process.
· Co-editors nominate EB members, content-area-expert reviewers, and special issue editors. These nominations must be approved by CSRI.
· The co-editors will use the current approved peer-review system (i.e., ScholarOne – Clarivate Manuscripts) to conduct the editorial review process.
· Co-editors will assign submitted manuscripts to reviewers who possess the appropriate knowledge, skills, and attitudes to objectively evaluate them, will evaluate submitted reviews, replace reviews that they deem to be inadequate, and/or solicit a replacement review if a reviewer fails to submit a review in a timely manner.
· The co-editors – in tandem or separately – will be the final arbiter(s) regarding the acceptance of a manuscript when reviewers’ evaluations differ.
· Co-editors will ensure the review process is timely and authors receive constructive feedback regarding their manuscript.
3. The co-editors are to forward accepted manuscripts to JIIA acquisitions editors (i.e., Peter Han, K.C. Mayer) for publication on JIIA website.
· Co-editors are responsible for ensuring accepted manuscripts are copy-ready, including illustrations, references, and author contact information.
4. Co-editors are responsible for ensuring JIIA adheres to customary publishing ethical policies.
· Co-editors, in conjunction with CSRI, will identify, investigate, and address any mistakes and/or ethical breaches of conduct by authors and/or reviewers.
· Co-editors must be committed to treating authors impartially, fairly, courteously, and respectfully.
5. Co-editors will report JIIA’s editorial activities to CSRI.
· Co-editors will prepare an annual report to be published and presented to EB at the annual CSRI Conference on College Sport.
· Co-editors are encouraged and expected to make suggestions to CSRI about how CSRI may improve JIIA.
· Co-editors will keep CSRI informed of any significant problems regarding the quality or timely release of the journal.
EDITORIAL AUTHORITY STATEMENT
· The co-editors have final decision-making responsibility for the acceptance or rejection of any manuscript submitted to JIIA.
· CSRI will not become involved in individual editorial decisions.
